During an international seminar in France 2009, Supreme Master Ching Hai told stories of Buddhism, Sufism and Islam, which all remind us that the biggest obstacle of one's spiritual practice is our ego. As long as one still attaches to the fame and wealth of this world or to the expected benefits of spiritual practice, then even if he becomes a world champion, he cannot realize his true self. Therefore, we should truly renounce everything, including the ego, so as to be great.
Master compared enlightenment to the water of life: "Meditation is for yourself, because without water, we die of thirst. Without the water of life, we suffer, we die inside." If a person has triumphed over his own self, he becomes very bright and his light can pierce all the corners of Heaven and Earth.
